How To File 2013 Taxes Late

You’ll no longer be able to e-file, but you can still file your 2013 tax return

The deadline to e-file a 2013 tax return was October 15, 2014.

If you haven’t yet filed your 2013 taxes, you’ll still be able to prepare your 2013 tax return online but you’ll need to mail it to the IRS rather than electronically filing.

With RapidTax, you can file 2013 taxes late. All you’ll have to do is enter your information and after your return is prepared, you’ll print and mail it to the IRS.

Whatever you do, don’t put off doing your 2013 taxes. The later you file, the more you’ll end up handing over to the IRS. Save your money, and the headaches and get it out of the way!

You can still get your 2013 tax refund

If you’re late filing 2013 taxes and expecting a tax refund, you’ll be happy to hear you can still collect your refund.

The IRS Statute of Limitations allows tax filers three years to collect a tax refund. That means, you have until April 15, 2017. After this date the IRS will no longer send out 2013 tax refund checks.

There are countless ways you can use your refund money. Why not get your 2013 Tax Return out of the way now and collect the extra money sooner rather than later?

If you have tax due, your penalties will continue to increase

If you’re not expecting a tax refund, chances are you owe the IRS. Avoiding doing your 2013 taxes won’t make the tax due disappear, in fact, it will just make it worse.

With each day that passes and your 2013 tax return goes un-filed and un-paid, tax penalties increase.

Late filing penalties you could end up facing;

Failure-to-file Penalty: This penalty applies if you owe taxes and didn’t file your return by the deadline.

  • the penalty for filing late is 5% of your tax due amount for each month you return is late
  • the maximum is 25% of your tax due

Failure-to-pay Penalty: This penalty applies if you didn’t pay your 2013 tax liability by April 15, 2014 (even if you requested an extension).

  • the penalty for paying late is .5% of your tax due total for each month it’s left unpaid
  • the maximum is 25% of your tax due

Don’t wait any longer to file your 2013 tax return

If you still need to file your late 2013 taxes, it’s best to do it as soon as possible. The penalty for not filing your tax return is much higher than not paying your tax due. That means, even if you can’t pay your tax liability now, you’ll end up saving money in the long run if you can only file your 2013 taxes today and need to pay your tax due later.
