Where are the First-Time Homebuyer’s Checks?

With the recent talk of raising the first-time homebuyer credit, one important question is still open: why are the current checks taking so long to go through? No one expects the tax credit to be instantaneous, and of course the IRS will need to validate each claim. But reports of delayed tax credits are pouring in — and when the tax credit is a key part of financing a new home, this has people nervous.

Some people are in no mood to wait for the check. Several states have found a way around this: HUD is starting to lend people money backed by the tax credits, for certain mortgages. And several states have taken matters into their own hands: here is a list of states that lend new homeowners money to tide them over until the tax credit arrives. For many new home buyers, this can be a good way to stay afloat, but in most cases, it’s best not to rely on that tax credit as the only way to close a new home purchase.

  1. We bought a house in april we have been waiting since april 15 and today is Sept 8. Everytime we call well it could take up to such and such time and that we should be recieveing a letter in the mail that was 4weeks ago. We call everyday they tell us the same thing. This is nuts I want my money now!!!

  2. My Husband and I have been waiting over 20 weeks now and still no check.. Everytime we call it’s something different.. Mostly they say it’s still being processed.. I think this is ashame but what can you do?

  3. We are on our 15th week of waiting for our tax credit and are told something different each time we call the IRS. If we owe the government money they are on top of it, levying this and levying that so it’s not fair everyone has to wait this long for their money! It’s not helping the economy and people who really need this money to have to stress about when it’s coming.

  4. My husband and I are on our 14th week- so it’s nice to know we aren’t the only ones. We are crossing our fingers that we receive our check tomorrow. (But not holding our breath) LOL
